Now that the 2012 NBA draft is over, it’s time for free agency. One of the biggest names, Kevin Garnett, is already on the verge of re-signing with the Boston Celtics. There’s still plenty of talent left in the unrestricted section, with Deron Williams choosing between the Nets or the Mavs while Steve Nash is the most coveted free agent of them all.

Unrestricted – Deron Williams

The situation seems to be pretty simple for Williams, who averaged 21 points and 8.7 assists last season for the New Jersey Nets. He has promised the only team he’d leave the Brooklyn Nets for are the Dallas Mavericks. Williams played in his third All-Star game last season, and his reluctance to stay with the Nets depends on the moves they make while trying to keep him in New York.

Tim Duncan

At age 36, Duncan proved how good he can still be, averaging 17.4 points and 9.4 rebounds for the Spurs in the playoffs, which is pretty much on par with every premier big man in the league. He’s not every-night dominating like his younger days, but seems to have gotten better the last couple of years, still worthy of a big contract. Problem is it’s impossible to see him going anywhere but staying in San Antonio.

Steve Nash

Still a double-double kind of point guard, averaging 12.5 points and 10.7 assists for the Phoenix Suns last season. But Nash has seemed to grow a little bored or disappointed with the Suns, and is looking for a new home. While he’s probably the most sought after free agents this summer, he’s not just looking for a contender, surprising many by saying that a big contract is just as important.

Lou Williams

Another point guard a lot of teams would love to be coming off their benches, because Williams is that ‘microwave’ kind of guy, averaging 14.9 points in 26 minutes a night, while having the ability to play at both guard positions. Having no problem by coming off the bench is another plus for a guy who’s been in the league for seven seasons but is only 25.

Carl Landry

Landry is rumored to be looking for a big contract, which few will be willing to give him. But he’s a very good inside scorer, averaging 12.5 points in 24 minutes a night last season for New Orleans. Just don’t ask him to play defense, and he’ll put up big numbers as a starter as well, but you need a defensive kind of Center to partner up with him.

Gerald Wallace

Wallace has entered that stage in his career when he can’t be counted on for too many points at this point, but can do a lot of other things – rebounding and defense especially. Well, he was never much of a scoring threat anyways, but his numbers have been gradually dropping over the last few seasons. Would be a great asset to any team as long as there’s not too much offensive loads on his shoulders.

Kris Humphries

Not that good of a player as his numbers suggest, because only the Nets could offer him 35 minutes a night, bringing 13.8 points and 11 rebounds out of him. Still, Humphries will do a great job on the boards on both ends for any team that takes him, this time without the Kardashian baggage.

Chauncey Billups

Billups managed only 20 games for the Clippers last season before going down to an injury, averaging an impressive 15 points in his new role as a shooting guard most of the time. He and the Clippers would like to have another go, but there are plenty of teams willing to overlook his injury and give him a chance, hoping he can still be a significant minutes kind of guy.
