The fact that his club, Borussia Dortmund, aren’t really interested in selling him isn’t stopping Robert Lewandowski from telling the world of his aspirations to join the Premier League and specifically Manchester United, next season or further down the road.

Manchester United have been looking in to the Lewandowski matter for quite some time. They’ve already made on significant purchase this summer from the German champions, signing Shinji Kagawa in the only deal, pretty much, Dortmund were willing to make. They don’t see themselves, after winning two consecutive Bundesliga titles and proving they might be the next powerhouse of German football, as a feeder club.

Dortmund want to be a European force, with the highest average attendance in Europe, and be considered in high regard just like Bayern Munich. A local empire, and sometimes a European one. After beating Bayern in every meeting the last couple of years and playing in one of the most enjoyable styles a club across the continent has to provide, their entitled to feel that way.

Lewandowski is a conundrum to me. He’s tall, quick, strong with a powerful shot and an excellent aerial game. But is he a system-striker? Without Lucas Barrios he flourished last season, scoring 22 goals in 34 league matches, 30 goals in all competitions. If he wasn’t the only attacking option for the Polish team in Euro 2012, he might have had an easier time. He still managed to score the opening goal of the tournament.

But once he’s out, if he’ll ever be, of the Klopp-Dortmund system, is he that good? A striker worthy to start for a Champions League contender? Manchester Untied believe the 23 year old international, with 15 goals in 45 caps for the national team, is the right kind of target man for them, constantly looking for someone to partner up with Wayne Rooney and play ahead of him.

The Premier League is a league that I would like to play in, and I hope it happens some time. Although I am happy at Dortmund, I always like to aspire to greater heights.

He never mentions Manchester United, but it’s common knowledge they want him, and Lewandowski wouldn’t mind playing for the Red Devils. Dortmund, now with the addition of Marco Reus and a healthy Mario Gotze, might be a better team than United. With one year of Champions League football behind them, their goals are much higher than group stage participation this year. Lewandowski staying with the club is crucial to their plans, so it’s hard to see them letting him go this year, unless an offer that’s impossible to refuse (£30 million?) comes along.
