Apparently, playing for a side that’s won the last two Bundesliga championships and just might be one of the best in Europe isn’t enough. Kevin Grosskreutz of Borussia Dortmund is possibly after a Premier League gig, preferably with Liverpool, who would probably love to have the talented winger on board.

Brands are hard to fight, and the Liverpool name, plus the salary the club can offer, at least perceived it can offer, is quite an appealing lure to many players. Even for someone like Grosskreutz, one of Dortmund’s best performers during the last three years under Jurgen Klopp who also brought the 24 year old winger (yesterday had his birthday) to Dortmund from Rot Weiss Ahlen of the Bundesliga 2.

Since arriving in 2009 Grosskreutz has been an immediate choice on the wing for Klopp, playing in 192 league matches, scoring 43 goals. He hasn’t broken through to international scene, earning only 2 caps for the German national side and not getting included in the squad for Euro 2012, but there seems to be too much competition for attacking positions in Low’s team at the moment, filled with young and talented players. It didn’t help them against Italy in the semifinal, but that’s a different story.

Grosskreutz exact words regarding Liverpool? I love Borussia, but I cannot rule anything out. It would be a dream to play for Liverpool at some point. England is a dream for any footballer.

I think you’ll find very few people who’ll consider the current Liverpool side better than Dortmund. If Klopp manages to hold on to this group of players, releasing Shinji Kagawa to Manchester United while already signing the fantastic Marco Reus from Monchengladbach, he has a chance of not just winning a third conseuctive Bundesliga title, something that hasn’t happened in over a decade (Bayern Munich, 1999-2001), but being more than simply relevant in the Champions League. They might be one of the front-runners to win it according to some.

But still, the allure and dazzle of the Premier League seems shiny from afar. Even a club like Liverpool, who haven’t won a league title since 1990; who haven’t played in the Champions League in the last couple of seasons and won’t be playing in 2012-2013; Who finished 8th last season in another huge disappointment; even this club offers the perception of an upgrade for a borderline star player on the best team in Germany. Another way in which football defies logic.
