2012 Olympic Games Day 2 – Event Finals Previews & Predictions


In day of the 2012 Olympic games, the swimming pool will once again be the focus of the day, with the 4×100 men’s freestyle relay as the main event, with Michael Phelps and the American team hoping to defend their Olympic gold medal against World champions Australia and the fastest swimmer in the world today, James Magnussen.

More in the pool on the day – Women’s 100 meters butterfly, Men’s 100 meters breaststroke, Women’s 400 meters freestyle. We’ll have finals in Archery, Cycling, Diving, Fencing, Judo, Shooting and Weightlifting as well.

Archery – Women’s Team

The second gold medal batch in Archery will be shot for in the final scheduled for 18:01. South Korea, the Olympic champions from Beijing had the best ranking round in the 216 arrow round with a score of 1993, followed by the United States and Chinese Taipei.

Cycling – Women’s Road Race

The same route as yesterday, with 67 competitors from 36 nations. The three medalists from Beijing – Nicole Cooke, Emma Johansson and Tatiana Guderzo will also be competing in the London version. Girogia Bronzini of Italy, the world champion, is the favorite. Time – 12:00.

Diving – Women’s synchronized 3 meter springboard

China won 7 gold medals out of a possible 8 in the Beijing Olympic games, and this is once again their competition for the taking. Wu Minxia is the Olympic and world champion, diving along with her partner He Zi. Time – 15:00.

Fencing – Men’s Sabre

The favorites to win the Gold Medal will be the Italian world champion, Aldo Montano, his country-mate Luigi Tarantino and the Olympic champion from China, Zhong Man. The final will take place at 19:10.

Judo – Women’s 52 KG and Men’s 66 KG

Misato Nakamura, who won the Bronze medal in Beijing in the Women’s competition, will be the favorite to win the gold in London after winning the world title in 2011. The Men’s world champion, Masashi Ebinuma, is the favorite in the men’s competition. Finals at 16:00.

Shooting

Women’s 10 meter air pistol at 11:45, Women’s Skeet at 13:55.

Swimming

Women’s 100 meters butterfly (19:30) – Dana Vollmer of the United States set a new Olympic record in the heats and the world champion will be the favorite to win the Olympic title as well, with Australian Alicia Coutts, Swede Sarah Sjöström and China’s Lu Ying also in the running.

Men’s 100 meters breaststroke (20:08) – Cameron van der Burgh of South Africa set a new Olympic record in the semi final and will be the favorite to win the gold medal, chased by Fabio Scozzoli of Italy, Christian Sprenger of Australia and Giedrius Titenis of Lithuania.

Women’s 400 meters freestyle (20:15) – The overwhelming favorite and world champion is Federica Pellegrini, who already won the gold medal in half the distance back in Beijing.

Men’s 4×100 meters freestyle relay (20:54) – Quite often the biggest event in the swimming competition with a lot of drama, with Australia, the world champions with the fantastic James Magnussen spearheading the group, as favorites to take away the USA’s gold medal.

Weightlifting – Women’s 53 KG at 15:30
