Transfer Rumors 2012 – Manchester City Want Daniel Agger

Roberto Mancini promised Manchester City will be making a few big signings very soon, but no one saw this one coming – a £13 million bid for Liverpool & Denmark central defender Daniel Agger, which Liverpool have rejected but has pushed the Dane to ask Brendan Rodgers for an out from the club he’s been with since 2006.

Manchester City aren’t only buyers – They’re desperately trying to offload Kolo Toure, especially due to his enormous wages (120,000 a week) and the fact that he isn’t exactly planned to be an important figure for the club next season. Vincent Kompany did pick up an injury recently, taking him out from the Asian tour, which makes Toure a bit more useful, but they’d rather find someone else willing to pay him this kind of money. Toure is willing to take a pay cut as well in favor of a new home, god bless his kind heart.

But the Agger transfer request came out of nowhere. Liverpool’s best centre back according to most (except for the Skrtel fans) hasn’t played much since arriving in 2006, usually missing out on the lineup because of the many injuries he has picked up. Last season was a turning point for him personally, while the club were struggling through 2012.

Agger enjoyed his best season for the club in terms of ability and production, although he still managed to take part in only 27 league matches, tying a record for him. The 27 year-old also captained Denmark in Euro 2012, finding the way out after three group stage matches, one win and two defeats.

Knowing that City are hot on his heels and rumored not to be the only one’s, with reports of Barcelona and Real Madrid also waiting to see how the whole Manchester City situation turns out, Agger seems intent on leaving to a bigger and better club, the sooner the better.

Brendan Rodgers is obviously trying to convince Agger to stay for the rebuilding project with bright times just around the corner, but the money and the prospect of Champions League football and trophies, a bit more optimistic looking with the other clubs, might be too great for the Dane to resist. Eventually, a good offer might be too much money for Liverpool to resist.
