Transfer Rumors 2012 – Clint Dempsey Trying to Force Liverpool Move

While the reported interest of Liverpool in Clint Dempsey has waned down recently, the American wants out from his Fulham gig, pulling a page from the Luka Modric of negotiations, and refusing to join his teammates as they venture on to their preseason tour.

The club left to Switzerland on Monday, but Dempsey told his manager, Martin Jol, that he didn’t want to join them, remaining behind in London. While Fulham have already declared the 29 year old American as not for sale, that hasn’t really changed the situation of Dempsey wanting out after more than five seasons with the club.

During his time with the club, Dempsey has played in 184 league games, scoring 50 goals, but has really broken out over the last couple of years, scoring 12 goals (2010-2011) and 17 goals last season. Despite his high value to the club, being their best player over the last two seasons and Fulham’s wish to get at least £10 million for him should they be convinced to sell him, they might have to settle for much less due to his age and now more aggressive tactics.

Liverpool, who have already signed Fabio Borini this summer, aren’t only interested in Dempsey, taking a close look at Bologna’s Gaston Ramirez, who’ll probably be a lot more expensive than Dempsey if the deal for the young Uruguayan ever comes through. It’s reported that Rodgers may have to sell a player to free up some funds for his next transfer target, regardless of the price.

Andy Carroll was reported to be on his way to West Ham last evening, but that turned out to be nothing more than a transfer lie, although West Ham are still trying to work out a deal that will land them the striker, although Rodgers has been growing more fond of the £35 million player, becoming more inclined to keep him.

Daniel Agger has also been the center of some speculation, with Manchester City already having a £13 million bid for the Danish centre back rejected, but Agger has told Rodgers he wants to leave to either City or a big club in Spain, with Barcelona and Real Madrid showing a certain interest.
