2012 Olympic Games Day 10 – Event Finals Previews & Predictions


Reaching the 10th day of the Olympic games, the track at the Olympic stadium grabs more and more of the attention, with Kirani James of Grenada hoping to repeat his feat at the world championships and win gold in the men’s 400 meters race, while a wide open final in the men’s 400 meters hurdles will also take place, with home favorite Dai Greene hoping to recapture his 2011 magic.

Athletics

Women’s pole vault – Yelena Isinbayeva is the Olympic champion, but it’ll be a big surprise if she repeats her two gold medals from Bejing and Athens. Jennifer Suhr of the United States, young Holly Bleasdale of Great Britain, Martina Strutz of Germany and Jirina Ptacnikova of the Czech Republic look more likely to win it. Final at 19:00

Women’s shot put – Finals at 19:15.

Men’s 400 meters hurdles – Javier Culson of Puerto Rico set the best time in 2012 but Felix Sanchez of the Dominican Republic looked sharpest in the semifinals. Angelo Taylor of the United States, gold medalist in Sydney and Beijing and of course Dai Greene of Great Britain, the world champion, can all take gold. Final at 20:45

Women’s 3000 meters steeplechase – Another Kenya – Ethiopia battle, begins at 21:05.

Men’s 400 meters – Another open race, but the world champion Kirani James of Grenada looked the best in the semifinals and will be the favorite to win gold, with the Belgian Borlee twins hoping to stand in his way, alongside Lalonde Gordon of Trinidad & Tobago and Chris Brown of the Bahamas. At 21:30.

Cycling – Men’s Sprint

Jason Kenny of Great Britain, who took silver in Beijing in this event is the favorite to win this event and bring another Cycling gold medal to the home nation.

Equestrian, Team Jumping at 14:00

Gymnastics

Men’s rings at 14:00, Women’s uneven bars at 14:50 and Men’s vault at 15:41.

Sailing

Women’s Laser radial class – Four women can still win gold: Xu Lijia of China, the bronze medalist from Beijing, co-leader along with Marit Bouwmeester of the Netherlands. A point behind them are Annalise Murphy from Ireland and Evi Van Acker of Belgium. Final at 13:00

Men’s Laser class – Gold and Silver are pretty much wrapped up, although you never know. Still, it’ll be shocking if Tom Slingsby of Australia doesn’t win gold and Pavlos Kontides of Cyprus doesn’t win silver. Final at 14:00.

Shooting – Men’s 50 meters rifle three positions at 13:45, Men’s trap at 16:00.

Weightlifting – Men’s +105 kilograms at 15:30.

Wrestling

Men’s Greco-Roman 60 kilograms at 18:46; Men’s Greco-Roman 84 kilograms at 19:21 and Men’s Greco-Roman 120 kilograms at 19:56.
