Day 11 of the 2012 Olympics is a day without huge stars in finals, but a chance for Nick Willis of New Zealand to beat Asbel Kiprop of Kenya in the 1500 meters race and Jesse Williams of the United States to add the Olympic title to his world championship gold medal in the men’s high jump competition.
Athletics
Men’s 1500 meters – Nick Willis (New Zealand), silver medalist from Beijing; Matthew Centrowitz (USA); Silas Kiplagat (Kenya); Asbel Kiprop of Kenya, the gold medalist from Bejing. Final at 21:00.
Men’s High Jump – Potential champions might be Robert Grabarz of Great Britian (European champion) and Jesse Williams of the United States (world champion) above the rest. Final begins at 19:00.
Men’s discus throw – Robert Harting of Germany has the best result this year and the second best in the qualifiers, plus being two-time world champion makes him the favorite, alongside Gerd Kanter of Estonia, the Olympic champion and the owner of the best result in the qualifiers. Final beings at 19:45.
Women’s 400 meters hurdles – Final at 20:45. Natalya Antyukh of Russia has the best result in the world this year and the semifinals, but Lashinda Demus of the United States is the world champion and the favorite to win.
Cycling
Men’s Keirin which begins at 10:00, Women’s ominum beginning at 10:15 and the Women’s sprint final at 17:25, with Brit Victoria Pendleton, already with one gold in London as the favorite to win another with Anna Mears of Australia and German Kristina Vogel in the way.
Diving
Men’s 3 meters springboard final beginning at 19:00, being a battle between Ilya Zakharov of Russia and the Olympic champion He Chong.
Equestrian
Team dressage final beginning at 10:00.
Gymnastics
Men’s Parallel bars at 14:00; Men’s horizontal bar at the same time; Women’s floor and Women’s balance team also on the same time.
Sailing
Men’s sailboard (RS-X) medal race begins at 14:00 with Dorian van Rijsselberghe in complete control and almost a guaranteed gold medal. The women’s final begins at the same time, with Mariana Alabau of Spain well ahead of three women fighting for silver – Lee Korzits of Israel, Tuuli Petaja of Finland Moana Delle of Germany.
Table Tennis
The women’s team final between China and Japan at 15:30.
Triathlon
Men’s triathlon kicks off with 55 athletes in Hyde Park – 1500 meters swimming, 40 kilometers on the bicycle and 10 kilometers of running.
Weightlifting
The Men’s +105 kilograms competition which begins at 15:30.
Wrestling
Men’s Greco-Roman for 66 and 96 kilograms beginning at 17:45.
