Transfer Rumors 2012 – Arsenal & Manchester United Chasing Isco

Malaga aren’t done with their clearance sale, and 20 year old Francisco Román Alarcón Suárez, aka Isco, seems to be the next name Premier League teams are chasing, as Manchester United and their mountains of cash just waiting to be spent join Arsenal in their chase after the Spain U-23 midfielder.

After Salomon Rondon left to Rubin Kazan for €10 million and Santi Cazorla made the move to Arsenal for €19, Malaga aren’t done with their selling, despite having a Champions League qualifying fixture coming up. This season is about saving as much money as possible, and if the owner has his way, Malaga will get rid of every valuable piece they have, leading to a sharp decline and possible relegation after a record 4th place finish last season.

For Arsenal, it’s a chance to spend more of their profits from recent seasons despite already signing Podolski, Giroud and most recently, Santi Cazrola. There’s still plenty of talent to grab from the Spanish club, and at a better price than in most seasons, although you can hardly consider paying €19 for Cazrola a bargain.

Isco, in any case, will be one for the future after a disappointing Olympic tournament in London and in general, despite his impressive debut season for Malaga (5 goals in 32 matches), not looking like the kind of person who can make an immediate effect with a new Premier League club, especially one of the top 4.

Manchester United have now joined the chase for the youngster. After and before the weekend IPO there were talks about United still having money set aside for a transfer that has yet to happen. As Robin van Persie moves further and further away from Old Trafford, opting to begin the season with Arsenal, Alex Ferguson, disappointed stricken from this season’s transfer market, needs to look elsewhere.

The midfield is something that United have been looking to improve and upgrade for about 4 seasons now, although it’s hard to declare Ferguson has done a successful job in that area, last season needing Paul Scholes to come out of retirement to fill in the holes. It almost landed United a title, but they were definitely outclassed by City in the meeting between the sides and in the Champions League by, on paper, lesser teams.

And there’s also the chance to ruin it for Arsenal, who haven’t made it easy for United to make their wishes of landing the Dutch striker come true. If they can stop Arsene Wenger from getting a talented youngster like Isco, someone he’s been looking at for quite some time, regardless of what and how it’ll benefit Manchester United, than they’ll probably go for it. Ego-filled men with lots of money to spend make for dangerous rivals.
