Zoltan Gera With the Early Candidate for Premier League Goal of the Season

It probably will be beaten in the next few weeks and during the season, but at least for the opening day of the 2012-2013 Premier League season, Zoltan Gera has the best goal of the year, with his fabulous strike that open West Brom’s 3-0 win over Liverpool at the Hawthorns.

Liverpool never really do well in that stadium, at least not recently, but even the change of managerial faces at both clubs didn’t change the outcome. Kenny Dalglish got sacked while Roy Hodgson moved on to manage the England national team. Brendan Rodgers left Swansea for Liverpool while Steve Clarke, formerly Dalglish’s assistant, got the job instead of Hodgson in the midlands.

Liverpool looked like a mess after Gera’s goal – a wonderful strike just before half time, stopping the ball on his chest and sending it into Reina’s top corner from just outside the edge of the penalty box. Later on Daniel Agger got sent off and Liverpool really fell apart, losing 0-3 with 10-man, but there’s no doubt that Gera’s moment was the best of the day.
