Devin Smith – Catch of the Week, Catch of the Season

It’s only week 1, but the one handed catch by Ohio State Buckeyes receiver Devin Smith might be already the best reception we’ll see all season, scoring a touchdown to give the home team their first score of the game, leading to a 56-10 season opening win over the Miami (OH) Redhawks.

For Smith, who is beginning his second season with Columbus, it was a 23 yard incredible grab over a Readhawks reciever that was waiting to make the interception. Not the best of throws from quarterback Braxton Miller, but the best grabs come from the less than perfect passes. Smith had only one more reception on the day, finishing the game with 2 catches for 31 yards and a touchdown.

Miller himself had the most impressive numbers of the day, throwing for 207 yards and two touchdown passes, tying his career high with 14 completions, but his impressive feat was on the ground, setting a new record for rushing yards for a Ohio State quarterback, gaining 161 yards, including one touchdown after a 65 yard burst.

With the #18 Buckeyes win, Urban Meyer moves to 11-0 in season openers.
