Back to the SEC, Alabama-LSU 1-2 thing. This was the case last season on 8 of the rankings, although LSU were the number one team until they lost in the national championship game. The big moves this time were Notre Dame, moving up 11 spots after beating Michigan State; and Stanford, stunning USC 21-14, making a 12 place climb.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide , 3-0 (58 First Place Votes) – Another shutout for the national champions, this time having it pretty easy at Arkansas, beating the Razorbacks 52-0.

2. LSU Tigers, 3-0 (2) – The Tigers moved up a spot after another easy win at home, this time dismantling Idaho 63-14.

3. Oregon Ducks, 3-0 – The most impressive offense in the land (against less than impressive opponents) continued to put up big numbers, this time beating Tennessee Tech 63-14 to improve their rankings by one spot.

4. Florida State Seminoles, 3-0 – The Seminoles moved up one spot after a very impressive defensive display against Wake Forest, taking down their ACC rivals 52-0 behind Chris Thompson’s 197 yards of rushing.

5. Georgia Bulldogs, 3-0 – Still not impressing many people out there with their defense, but they keep on winning, this time beating Florida Atlantic 56-20, setting a new school record of 713 offensive yards, moving up two spots.

6. Oklahoma Sooners, 2-0 – Didn’t play, fell a spot.

7. South Carolina Gamecocks, 3-0 – Moved up one spot after beating UAB 49-6 to move up one spot in the rankings, losing their starting quarterback Connor Shaw on the way.

8. West Virginia Mountaineers, 2-0 – WVU had an easy time at home against James Madison, beating them 42-12, as Geno Smith set the school’s all time passing record, throwing for 411 yards and five touchdowns.

9. Stanford Cardinal, 3-0 – Shot up 12 places into the top 10 after their fourth consecutive win over USC, beating the Trojans 21-14 behind 153 rushing yards from Stepfan Taylor.

10. Clemson Tigers, 3-0 – The Tigers moved up one spot with an easy 41-7 win over Furman, enjoying Tajh Boyd’s 310 passing yards and two touchdowns.

11. Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 3-0 – For once, there’s reason to be all hyped up, as the Irish move up 10 spots after beating Michigan State 20-3 with some incredible defense, especially against Le’Veon Bell.

12. Texas Longhorns, 3-0 – Moved up a couple of spots thanks to a nice win in Oxford against Ole Miss, beating the Rebels 66-31, with David Ash throwing four touchdown passes.

13. USC Trojans, 2-1 – Fell 11 spots because of their loss to Stanford (21-14), with their title hopes and Matt Barkley’s Heisman hopes taking a big shot.

14. Florida Gators, 3-0 – Another impressive road win for the Gators, this time in Knoxville against the Vols, beating Tennessee 37-20.

15. Kansas State Wildcats, 3-0 – Struggled at home against North Texas, eventually winning 35-21, meaning they didn’t go anywhere in the rankings this week.

16. Ohio State Buckeyes, 3-0 – Actually fell four spots despite beating California 35-28, mostly behind the arm and legs of quarterback Braxton Miller.

17. TCU Horned Frogs, 2-0 – Got their first Big 12 win, still dropping them a spot, beating Kansas 20-6 behind Casey Pachall’s 335 yards and two touchdown passes.

18. Michigan Wolverines, 2-1 – Fell a spot but won their second consecutive game, an easy home stand against UMass, 63-13, as Denard Robinson put up big numbers again on his way to become the school’s all time leader in passing yards (needs 90 more).

19. UCLA Bruins, 3-0 – Moved up three spots, continuing to be one of the more pleasant surprises this season with an impressive offense, this time beating Houston 37-6.

20. Louisville Cardinals, 3-0 – Won a shootout against North Carolina, beating the Tar Heels 39-34 despite getting outscored 3-20 in the final quarter. Dropped on place.

21. Michigan State Spartans, 2-1 – Fell 11 spots after their huge disappointment at home, losing to Notre Dame 3-20.

22. Arizona Wildcats, 3-0 – Moved up a couple of spots after a big and easy win over South Carolina State, 56-0.

23. Mississippi State Rebels, 3-0 – Make their first appearance of the year in the top 25, although their 30-24 win against Troy wasn’t an impressive one.

24. Boise State Broncos, 1-1 – Back in the rankings after a 30-12 win over Miami (Ohio) behind some impressive running from D.J. Harper, finishing with 162 yards and three touchdowns.

25. Nebraska Cornhuskers, 2-1 – A tough day for Nebraska as head coach Bo Pellini was taken off the field on a stretcher. They make their return to the ranking with a 42-13 win over Arkansas State.
