Despite being the longest serving on the Juventus squad, goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon is still the most expensive player on it, probably serving as an example for the decline in the financial situation in Italy and specifically Serie A.

Like most big Italian clubs, Juventus are mostly buyers, although some players, like Lucio and Andrea Pirlo, didn’t cost a dime to bring over from Inter and Milan. The rest of the current squad, some on co-ownership deals, and some actually who grew up in Turin before being sold and bought back again, cost a total of €188 million to assemble.

Gianluigi Buffon

Maybe the greatest goalkeeper of all time and certainly the most expensive of them, Buffon’s is Juventus’ longest serving player, arriving at the club from Parma in 2001 for €40 million. Besides winning five league titles (two removed) and the World Cup with Italy in 2006, he’ll always be cherished by Juve fans for sticking through the Serie B season. He has appeared 326 times for the club.

Marco Storari – The Buffon replacement over the last few years, playing in 27 matches for the club since signing from AC Milan for €4.5 million in 2010.

Giorgio Chiellini

Chiellini has been with Juventus since the 2005-2006 season, purchased from Livorno in 2004 for €8.5 million. He was then sold to Fiorentina in a co-ownership deal for €3.5 million and after one very impressive season for the Florence club, was bought back again (100%) for another €4.3 million. He has made 208 league appearances, scoring 18 goals for the club.

Martin Caceres

Prior to the 2012-2013 season, the Uruguayan defender spent two loan spells with Juventus – one in the 2009-2010 season and again during the second half of last year, helping the club to the title. He was purchased from Sevilla during the summer for €8 million.

Leonardo Bonucci

A master of scoring own goals, Bonucci arrived at Juventus in 2010 after a complicated deal involving Bari (his former club) and Genoa. Juventues wound up paying €15.5 million for the centre back, but part of the deal was Criscito going to Genoa (50%) for €6 million. Since then Bonucci has played 71 league matches for the club, scoring 4 goals.

Stephan Lichtsteiner

The Swiss right back was purchased by Juventus from Lazio in the summer of 2011, since then playing 40 times in the Serie A for Juve, scoring three goals. Two of his goals came on both opening days, in 2011 & 2012. He cost €10 million to get.

Simone Pepe

Yet to play a single match this season, Pepe has been with Juventus since 2010, first on loan from Udinese and later being signed permanantly. He initially cost €2.6 million on loan, and Juventus added €7.5 to complete his signing. He has played in 61 league matches for the club, scoring 11 goals.

Simone Padoin – The 28 year old midfielder has played once for Juventus so far on his first season with the club after he was signed for €5 million from Atalanta.

Kwadwo Asamoah

The young Ghanaian international arrived at Juventus this summer from Udinese on a co-ownership deal, with Juve paying €9 million for 50% of his economic rights. He has played in all five league matches so far this season, scoring one goal. A couple of months before his 24th birthday, Asamoah already has 41 appearances for his national team.

Arturo Vidal

The multi-position midfielder came to Juventus in 2011, signed for €10.5 from Bayer Leverkusen. He played a major part in Juve winning their first league title since returning from Serie B last season, scoring 7 goals in 33 matches. He has appeared 45 times for the Chilean national side.

Emanuele Giaccherini

In all, Giaccherini has cost Juventus €7.25 million – First in the co-ownership deal with Cesena on August, 2011. Then an extra €4.25 to make it a full ownership during the 2012 summer. He has appeared for Juventus in 26 league matches, mostly of the bench, scoring two goals.

Maruicio Isla – Another Chilean midfielder, Isla arrived at Juventus along with Asamoah, purchased in another co-ownership deal, with Juve paying €9.4 million. He has appeared only once so far this season for the club.

Mirko Vucinic

A forward playmaker since arriving at Juventus, complementing Andrea Pirlo’s dominance in the midfield, Vucinic arrived at Juventus from Roma on July, 2011, with Juve paying €15 million for the Montenegro player. He has appeared in 37 league matches for the club, scoring 11 goals so far.

Sebastian Giovinco

When people talk about being unwise financially and the weird ways of the Italian financial system in football, Giovinco is an often subject mentioned. He grew up through the Juve academy since the age of 9. Juventus sold 50% of his rights to Parma in 2011 for €3 million, but after a fantastic season wanted him back. So… they paid €11 million to get him back fully under their wing.

Fabio Quagliarella

The former Udinese and Napoli striker cost a total of €15 million to sign, one third coming through his loan deal in 2010 and the later after Juventus made the full ownership deal for 10 million. Often injured, Quagliarella has scored 15 goals in 43 league matches for Juve.

Alessandro Matri

Another example of the late blooming Italian forward, Matri only started making an impression while playing for Cagliari at the age of 26. In a cash plus player exchange deal, Matri cost Juventus €13 million to bring from the Sardinia club. He has since played in 50 league matches for the club, scoring 19 goals.
