Kaka, one of the best players in the world over the last decade, has still not played a single official match for Real Madrid this season. The reason? The answer lies with Jose Mourinho, who was impressed with the Brazilian’s performance in the friendly match against Millonarios, and might give the 30 year old a chance pretty soon.

Scoring a hat trick in such an affair usually isn’t the most impressive of feats, but Kaka has had such a miserable start to the season, sometimes not even sitting on the bench, that he needs to hang on to any straw. After trying to find a way out of the club during the summer, hoping to find himself playing once again for AC Milan, he had to settle for the fact that he won’t be part of Moruinho’s preferred players, and prove he deserves a place in the squad and the first team.

Kaka played well, as did the whole team as we maintained a solid structure. We worked well. When players show motivation and ambition the coach has more confidence and can play them in official games. Kaka, and the others, did enough to put their names in my head.

A guarantee? Not even close. Kaka wasn’t the only one to get rare minutes of action in the 8-0 win. Ricardo Carvalho made an appearance, as well as substitute goalkeeper Adan. Derik and Mario Hermoso were among the younger players to get a chance to show their skills. Like Carvalho, Kaka suddenly found himself out of the picture; possibly for less than impressive form during training, possibly for another reason, a personal one.

Injuries have hampered the player’s career with Real Madrid since joining in 2009, but he usually plays well when given the opportunity. Making a return, once again, last season, produced some fine performances, scoring 5 goals and adding 9 assists in 27 matches, mostly coming off the bench. With Mesut Ozil one of Mourinho’s preferred and locked in choices in the lineup (until the arrival of Modric), Kaka usually played on the left wing, showing he might not be as fast as other wingers, but his vision and intelligence with the ball didn’t disappear.

This season, as we’ve mentioned, he’s yet to make an appearance. Cristiano Ronaldo owns the left wing, Mesut Ozil and Luka Modric at the attacking midfielder role, Angel Di Maria on the right wing and Gonzalo Higuain, most of the time, start in the middle as the striker. Kaka won’t be playing in the Champions League, at least not the group stage, not getting included in the 25-man squad. League? Only if Real have another mini-crisis on their hands, and Mourinho actually loses his patience with one of the players he obviously prefers to the former FIFA world player of the year.
