Grabbing a quite comfortable SEC win, Alabama are now a unanimous number one team, for the first time this season, while LSU’s unimpressive win over Towson dropped them another spot. Florida State are number 3 for the first time in almost a decade while Northwestern make the rankings for the first time since 2008.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0, 60 First place votes) – Business as usual in Tuscaloosa, beating Ole Miss 33-14 in their “worst” defensive showing of the season.

2. Oregon Ducks (5-0) – A huge day for Kenjon Barner with four touchdowns and 232 yards from scrimmage, as the Ducks beat Washington State 51-26 in another offensive explosion.

3. Florida State (5-0) – Moved into the top 3 for the first time this season after a 30-17 win over South Florida on the road.

4. LSU Tigers (5-0) – Slipped down another spot because they played a cupcake, struggling to dominate Towson, winning 38-22.

5. Georgia Bulldogs (5-0) – The best in the SEC East so far, Georgia survived a wild shootout at home against Tennesee (51-44), questioning their defensive superiority once tougher tests like USC and Florida come along.

6. South Carolina (5-0) – Stayed put after a 38-17 road win against Kentucky.

7. Kansas State Wildcats (4-0) – Didn’t play, didn’t move.

8. West Virginia Mountaineers (4-0) – Moved up one spot after beating Baylor 70-63, in what was a great day for Geno Smith but a bad one for defenses on both sides.

9. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (4-0) – Didn’t play, moved up one spot.

10. Florida Gators (4-0) – Didn’t play, moved up one spot.

11. Texas Longhorns (4-0) – Survived a wild shootout at Oklahoma State behind another good performance from David Ash, winning 41-36 and remaining in place.

12. Ohio State (5-0) – The Buckeyes keep rolling forward with good defense and a wonderful Braxton Miller, beating Michigan State 17-16, moving up a couple of spots.

13. USC Trojans (3-1) – Didn’t play, stayed put.

14. Oregon State Beavers (3-0) – Needed a very late touchdown to beat Arizona 38-35, with Sean Mannion throwing for 433 yards, moving up four spots.

15. Clemson Tigers (4-1) – Rebounded from their painful loss to FSU by beating Boston College 45-31, moving up a couple of spots.

15. TCU Horned Frogs (4-0) – Won their 12th consecutive game (most in the nation), beating SMU 24-16 and staying in the same spot.

17. Oklahoma Sooners (2-1) – Didn’t play, dropped a spot.

18. Stanford Cardinal (3-1) – Lost their first game of the season in a defensive showdown in Seattle against Washington, losing 17-13, falling 10 spots.

19. Louisville Cardinals (5-0) – The best in the Big East, coming from behind to beat Southern Miss 21-17.

20. Mississippi State Bulldogs (4-0) – Didn’t play, moved up two spots.

21. Nebraska Cornhuskers (4-1) – Barely won (30-27), but got their first noteworthy win of the season against Wisconsin, mostly thanks to Taylor Martinez.

22. Rutgers Scarlet Knights (4-0) – Didn’t play, moved up one spot.

23. Washington Huskies (3-1) – Beat Stanford 17-13 on a big and exciting Thursday night, pushing them into the rankings.

24. Northwestern Wildcats (5-0) – Despite the unimpressive schedule, the Wildcats deserve a spot for their consistency, this time beating Indiana 44-29.

25. UCLA Bruins (4-1) – Back into the rankings after an easy 41-17 win over Colorado.

Dropped from rankings: Michigan State, Boise State, Baylor.
