A real shake up in the top 5 as three teams – Florida State, LSU and Georgia fall, while a total of nine ranked teams lost in the same week for the first time since 2008. Alabama didn’t play and stayed put, Oregon won and remained second, while South Carolina (beating the Bulldogs), Florida (beating the Tigers) and West Virginia (beating Texas) made the biggest strides forward.

1. Alabama Crimson Tide (5-0, 60 first place votes) – Didn’t play, didn’t move.

2. Oregon Ducks (6-0) – The only top 5 team that played and didn’t lose this week, as the Ducks had another impressive offensive showing, beating Washington 52-21.

3. South Carolina Gamecocks (6-0) – No one thought South Carolina had such a good defense, as they eliminated one contender for the SEC East, destroying Georgia 35-7, moving up three spots.

4. Florida Gators (5-0) – Probably just as big of a win for an SEC East team, as the Gators beat the LSU Tigers 14-6 in the swamp, moving up six spots.

5. West Virginia Mountaineers (5-0) – Great offense with just a shade of defense. Geno Smith didn’t spark as before, but enough to throw for four touchdowns, beating Texas 48-45 in Austin, moving up three spots.

6. Kansas State Wildcats (5-0) – The two headed rushing monster of Bill Snyder’s team with Collin Klein and John Hubert had no problem  as always, against Kansas, beating the state rival 56-16 and moving up a spot.

7. Notre Dame Fighting Irish (6-0) – Defense, defense, defense, and the Irish just keep winning, moving up two spots after beating Miami 41-3.

8. Ohio State Buckeyes (6-0) – Continue to dominate their Big Ten Rival, pouring 63 points against Nebraska, limiting the Cornhuskers to 38, moving up four spots.

9. LSU Tigers (5-1) – Les Miles lost in the regular season for the first time since 2010, as the Tigers struggled once again on the road, this time dropping 6-14 against Florida, falling down five spots.

10. Oregon State Beavers (4-0) – The surprising team of the season continues with excellent defense, beating Washington State 19-6 and moving up four spots.

11. USC Trojans (4-1) – Slowly making their way back up the rankings, surviving a bad start in Utah to come away with the 38-28 win, moving up a couple of spots.

12. Florida State Seminoles (5-1) – Still the best in the ACC, but no longer undefeated, falling, very surprisingly, against North Carolina State 17-16, falling nine spots.

13. Oklahoma Sooners (3-1) – All the problems from before were forgotten as the Sooners’ offense was back on track, beating Texas Tech 41-20 and moving up four spots.

14. Georgia Bulldogs (5-1) – Crashing down the rankings and dropping 10 spots after a demoralizing 7-35 loss against South Carolina, falling behind in the SEC East race.

15. Texas Longhorns (4-1) – The offense did well, but couldn’t keep up with Geno Smith and the West Virginia offense, losing 45-48 and falling four spots.

16. Clemson Tigers (5-1) – Back in the race for the top of the ACC after beating Georgia Tech 47-31, but still dropping down a spot.

17. Stanford Cardinal (4-1) – Stanford showed it does have some offense when a team like Arizona is involved, beating the Wildcats 54-48 and moving up a spot.

18. Louisville Cardinals (5-0) – Didn’t play, moved up a spot.

19. Mississippi State Bulldogs (5-0) – Still haven’t met a juggernaut to quell their start, this time beating Kentucky 27-14 and moving up a spot.

20. Rutgers Scarlet Knights (5-0) – Impressive defense pushed them through against Uconn, beating the Huskies 19-3, moving up two spots.

21. Cincinnati Bearcats (4-0) – Beat Miami (OH) 52-14, and shot up into the Top 25 for the first time this season.

22. Texas A&M Aggies (4-1) – For once, A&M didn’t fall apart in the second half, conjuring a big fourth quarter finish against Ole Miss, winning 30-27, shooting up into the rankings.

23. Louisiana Tech Bulldogs (5-0) – The Bulldogs are probably the most surprising name to find in the rankings, but after a 58-31 win over UNLV, finally get some attention for the polls.

24. Boise State Broncos (4-1) – The Broncos were the next team to beat a win-less Southern Mississippi 40 -14, staying in the same spot.

25. Michigan Wolverines (3-2) – The only Michigan team in the rankings, beating Purdue 44-13 to move back into the top 25.
