Big hits rarely come without their share of controversy these days in the NFL, but there was no one complaining about Brandon Browner of the Seattle Seahawks hitting, not tackling, Wes Welker of the New England Patriots.
Clean, old-fashioned, pure legal violence. The Seahawks have had their share of villainous moments this season – the dirty hit on Sean Lee of the Dallas Cowboys in week 2, Golden Tate winning the game against the Packers with a pass interference and a catch on a ball he never actually had in his possession.
But no one really complains around the league when you beat the New England Patriots. Seattle showed once again their incredible defense, that was simply too fast and too physical for the Patriots in a 24-23 win. The New England attack was suddenly muted in the second half, as the offensive line couldn’t keep Tom Brady safe from sacks and giving him enough time to produce on offense.
Browner is into his second season with Seattle, making the Pro Bowl in 2011. He arrived in the NFL after five seasons in the CFL, making their All-Star game three times. He recorded six tackles, one of them for a loss, against the Patriots. Welker himself had a very good game, catching 10 passes for 138 yards and a touchdown, and besides the initial shock from the hit, just got up and kept on playing.
