Atletico Madrid – Falcao Can’t Stop Scoring

Atletico Madrid – Falcao Can’t Stop Scoring

It’s hard to what’s is more incredible – Falcao’s fantastic scorin record this season and in general since joining Atletico Madrid, 48 goals in 58 matces; or the fact that as of now, his team have exactly the same point count as Barcelona, on top of the Spanish La Liga.

Another game winning goal, which seems to come every match by now for the Colombian striker, not too far behind Messi and Ronaldo in the race for the Pichichi. This time? A golazo of a free kick in the 98th minute to give Atletico Madrid a 1-0 win over Real Sociedad.

There’s attackin talent on Atletico Madrid, but nothing that compares to the one-man wrecking crew that is Falcao, who getting the kind of marking treatment reserved to the really great players. And it doesn’t help most of the time. He’s not the only complete striker in the world, being a threat from about anywhere on the pitch, with Edin Dzeko of Manchester City coming to mind, not to mention Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but it’s hard thinking of anyone in better form than Falcao at the moment.

One of the endearing things about Falcao is the kind of goals he scores. No tap ins and sitters like Mario Gomez from Bayern Munich, another player with an outstanding scoring record over the past two seasons. Falcao goes for the pretty one quite often, missing an opportunity to do something special against Sociedad in the second half, trying to score off a rebound with an acrobatic effort.

Not one of his best matches, after not being at his best during the second match of the international break. Even the best striker in the world deserves a day or two off his A game, especially if he reserves his best for the last possible moment, coming through in the end.
