Transfer Rumors 2012 – Who’ll be the Next Liverpool Striker

Transfer Rumors 2012 – Who’ll be the Next Liverpool Striker

Having just Luis Suarez isn’t enough, but Liverpool have until January to carry on with just one natural striker, Raheem Sterling on the wing and an injured Fabio Borini. This obviously leads to speculations regading the players that might arrive in a few months to help Brendan Rodgers with his scoring problems this season.

Up to this point? Liverpool have scored 10 league goals – five of them by Suarez, another two by Steven Gerrard and the other three by Raheem Sterling, Nuri Sahin and Martin Skrtel. Like on the actual table (12th), Liverpool are in the bottom half of the scoring charts this season, with only 1.25 goals per match.

Where’s Andy Carroll? Brendan Rodgers let the expensive forward go on loan to West Ham, thinking he’ll be able to sign at least one more player to help him with the goalscoring before the season began, but the club’s directors acted otherwise. For the moment, there’s talk of some sort of promise of making funds available so Rodgers can get another forward.

But who? Well, names are always a bit more interesting. The most prolific name spread in the rumor mill is that of Schalke’s Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, the Dutch striker who had an incredilbe season in 2011-2012, scoring 48 goals in 47 matches for Schalke, but is usually someone who scores a goal once every two or three matches, at least in his forrays in the La Liga with Real Madrid and in Italy with AC Milan. He has scored 3 goals in 8 Bundesliga matches this season.

Another option running around is the surprising Tomer Hemed from Mallorca. The Israeli striker (25), into his second season with the Spanish club, was mostly known from his penalty conversion rate last season, scoring 8 league goals for the club on his debut season in the La Liga. This year, he’s much more than just a set piece taker, scoring six goals in the first eight league matches, ranking among the top scorers in Spain.

The third name is Theo Walcott, who keeps popping up this season in connection with Liverpool, as he just can’t seem to be able to get on track back with Arsene Wenger at Arsenal. After making some sort of a succesful return, came the expected injury during an England match, and it’s back to step one for the player who still hasn’t signed a new contract, with the current one running out in less than a year.
