We’ll never have anything like this again, not for a very long time. Reading taking a 4-0 lead after 37 minutes; Theo Walcott making it 4-4 six minutes into injury time; 5-4 for Arsenal; 5-5 through Pavel Pogrebnyak; Theo Walcott with the winner after 121 minutes; Marouane Chamakh with the final nail in the coffin two minutes later.
It’s only the League Cup, but maybe that is what enabled this match to get to these crazy proportions Reading have scored only 11 goals in through the first eight matches in the league this season, and in one match both teams score more than that.
First half? Nightmare match for the gunners, who had Damián Martinez provide one of the worst performances ever seen on any goalline anywhere in the world. About 45 minutes of pathetic defending, without winning one aerial ball, and a keeper that couldn’t stop anything coming at him.
Second half? Belief, belief, belief. Theo Walcott started it all, showing that putting him in as a striker should be something Arsene Wenger needs to consider more and more. Olivier Giroud made himself useful for once. Mind you, it was still 4-2 Reading at the 89th minute, just before poor defending let Laurent Koscielny make it 3-4. And the equalizer? The referee added 4 minutes, but when Walcott scored the equalizer it was 95:02 on the clock, because Reading made a substitution.
Olivier Giroud and Francis Coquelin actually thought the game was over  only to come back to overtime. Arsenal took the lead, but somehow, a broken Reading team managed to come back with some more terrible defending provided by Arsenal. On the final seconds of extra time, it was Theo Walcott once again, to cap off one of the craziest nights English football has ever seen. Marouane Chamakh, who scored twice after not finding the net since September 2011, made it 7-5 to turn off the lights at the Madjeski stadium after two hours of football no one will ever forget.
