Transfer Rumors 2012 – Manchester United Closer to Victor Wanyama

Goals against Barcelona certainly hike up the interest. If Victor Wanyama was only appreciated from afar by Manchester United (and other clubs), his performance in the Champions League has earned the Celtic midfielder a much closer look and possible transfer deal that might be coming soon.

According to certain rumor-creators, United have had scouts present in recent Chelsea matches to keep a close eye after the Kenyan. Martin Ferguson, the club’s chief scout, was present in the 2-1 win over Barcelona during the week. Celtic, not in the best of financial states, like the entirety of Scottish football, should be inclined to sell the player for £12 million pounds.

Wanyama began his professional European career at the age of 17, signing for Belgian side Beerschot AC, staying with them for three years before catching the eyes of the Celtic scouts. He already made his debut for the national team before ever playing for the Belgian side, capped 23 times since 2007.

Celtic tried to sign the player during his second year in Belgium, but where unsuccessful. The next summer, a fee of £900,000 was enough to make Wanyama the first Kenyan ever to play in the SPL. In a season and a half with the club, with two and a half more left on his contract,  he has scored 10 goals in all competitions for Celtic. However, he has already declared he won’t renew or extend his contract with the club, feeling as they can’t cope with the wage he thinks he should earn. Getting signs of interest from England do that to a man.

Celtic haven’t made the last offer to try and keep him longer with the team, but Wanyama intends to be playing in a better league, although not necessarily for a bigger club, very soon. Sounds a bit like a case of a player thinking a bit too much of himself, but goals vs Barcelona and too much love from the crowd while being praised by managers from bigger teams do that to a young lad, who’s only 21.
