For more than 60 minutes, it didn’t really look like Liverpool were planning to score, let alone win, against a superior yet lackluster Chelsea side, leading thanks to John Terry scoring from a corner kick. But Luis Suarez woke up and finally found some room, connecting with a Jamie Carragher cross to make it 1-1, keeping it that way till the end of the match.

While Chelsea dominated and controlled the encounter for about 70 minutes, their players simply fell off their feet in the closing minutes, and a better equipped side than the 2012 version of Liverpool would have probably done more than create a few chances that troubled Petr Cech. While Liverpool continue to struggle in the middle of the Premier League, Chelsea are the big losers of this one, unable to regain the second place in the table, falling to third behind the two Manchester teams.

Brad Jones was the busier of the two goalkeepers for most of the match, but he didn’t even touch the ball when John Terry was left undisturbed thanks to a nice screen by Branislav Ivanovic on the set piece, leaving the comeback captain completely free to score his first goal of the season.

In the collision of the “racists”, Ramires shoved Luis Suarez, colliding with John Terry’s feet. The Chlesea captain couldn’t continue, sending Gary Cahill onto the pitch. Liverpool hardly looked like a side capable of taking advantage of the less confident Chelsea defense, with Luis Suarez begging for someone to join him from the very defensive midfield unit consisting of Nuri Sahin, Steven Gerrard and Joe Allen, with all three playing hesitantly and badly throughout most of the match.

Brendan Rodgers made only one substitution during the match, sending in Suso, which changed the complexion of the game, giving Liverpool, which gave the side a wider look and more of an edge, which was translated 13 minutes later, after Glen Johnson, Steven Gerrard and Raheem Sterling started venturing forward, with Luis Suarez scoring easily, his 8th goal of the season (out of Liverpool’s 14 goals).

The rest was mostly Liverpool applying more pressure and Chelsea trying to make something out of counter attacks through Ramires, Mata and Eden Hazard. Liverpool, again, were the more dangerous side, as Suarez missed a nice through ball with Cech quick enough to make the clearance, Suso missing a comfortable shot from inside the box and Jose Enrique doing the same after some nice setup work from Raheem Sterling and Luis Suarez.
