2012 College Football Season – Week 13 Predictions

Rivalry week, week 13 of College Football. It comes down to a hobbled and disappointing USC Trojans team, the number one preseason pick, to try and stop the Notre Dame Fighting Irish from reaching the BCS Championship game. Alabama and Georgia are next in line, with a good chance of dueling for the second spot in the SEC title game, while Oregon and Florida wait (hoping to win) for a slip up.

Notre Dame (#1, 11-0) at USC (7-4), 8:00 PM

No Matt Barkley, no chance for the Trjoans, in a season that began with a number one preseason ranking and ends in something close to an embarrassment, while Notre Dame have the defense that is good enough to shut them down even with their full roster available. Hard to see anything stopping the Irish from playing in the BCS title game.

Auburn (3-8) at Alabama (#2, 10-1), 3:30 PM

Too much riding in this one for Alabama – the SEC and making it to their third national title game in four years, if everything goes well. Auburn have been a disaster this year, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see them give a bit more of a fight than they have all year, but it still won’t be anything close to enough.

Georgia Tech (6-5) at Georgia (#3, 10-1), 12:00 PM

Georgia are two wins away from making it to the national title game against the Yellow Jackets, who don’t have anything in their Arsenal that should worry one of the hottest teams in College Football right now. The Bulldogs have lost in this rivalry only once since 2001, and although weird things happen in these games, this isn’t the time.

Florida (#4, 10-1) at Florida State (#10, 10-1), 3:30 PM

The Gators still have a chance to make it in the national title game, but they don’t look capable of beating a Florida State team that many feel should be higher up the standings and closer to the title game, with the number one defense in the nation. The way Jeff Driskel has been playing lately, this looks like a third straight win for the Seminoles in this rivalry.

Oregon (#5, 10-1) at Oregon State (#15, 8-2), 3:00 PM

What a let down. The Ducks, still a team quite a few think is the best in the nation, might not be in the conference championship game if Stanford beat UCLA. Still, a huge Civil War game with a solid Oregon State team that will make this an exciting and close one. The Beavers haven’t won this one since 2007.

Stanford (#8, 9-2) at UCLA (#17, 9-2), 6:30

The Bruins have their division wrapped up, and this will be a preview to the conference championship game only if Stanford win, which means stopping Johnathan Franklin. UCLA might actually be thinking they’d rather lose now than beat Stanford with the option of playing Oregon next.
