Transfer Rumors 2013 – Leighton Baines to Manchester United, Patrice Evra to PSG

Two things are obvious regarding a couple of the best left backs in the Premier League: Leighton Baines is going to leave Everton for Manchester United at some point, and Patrice Evra isn’t going to stay at Old Trafford for much longer. His next destination? Probably PSG.

Evra, who was part of the PSG youth setup, never did break into the first team in the late 90’s. Instead, he played for Marsala, Monza and then Monaco before leaving to Manchester United in 2006, showing for about three or four years he is one of the best full backs in the planet. His form over the last couple of seasons have brought United to the decision of getting a good backup (Buttner) and seek for a better choice for a starter on the market. Everton’s Baines, and England international, has been their top choice for over a year now.

It’s not like Evra is being thrown out. A move to PSG, who have also been after Ashley Cole, should mean that the 31 year old will get aĀ Ā£90,000-a-week salary increase by joining what might be the richest club in the world, owned by theĀ Qatar Investment Authority.

United will probably be looking for aĀ Ā£5-10 million offer from PSG in order to give up on Evra. Buttner had a decent start, but Ferguson has been reluctant to give him a proper chance in the starting lineup due to the defensive woes his team is going through. Another formerly promising left back, Fabio da Silva, isn’t doing as well as expected, as opposed to his brother on the other side of the pitch.

So United are aiming at Baines, a transfer they wanted to make happen this summer. Unfortunately, Alex Ferguson isn’t on the best of terms with Everton’sĀ chairman Bill Kenwright, which caused the deal to collapse during the summer. However, in the light of United’s defensive problems this season, conceding 21 goals through the first 15 league matches, there’s a good chance they’ll press to sign someone as soon as January.

Evra has appeared 306 times for Manchester United, scoring five goals. He has won four Premier League titles and one Champions League trophy.

Evra isn’t the only player that PSG are planning on at the moment. Rumors tell us that another Napoli player (after getting Lavezzi in the summer), Marek Hamsik, might be on his way to the struggling Parisian club.
