Chicago Bears – Players vs the Fans

After losing three games in a row and losing pace in the NFC North playoff race, things are turning ugly between Chicago Bears fans and players. After Brian Urlacher spoke about the matter, Lance Briggs backed his teammate While taping The Lance Briggs Show Tuesday night in the CSN studio.

After a 7-1 start against a relatively soft schedule, the Chicago Bears have gone on to lose five of their next six game, most of them to teams you would consider playoff and Super Bowl contenders. At 8-6, they’re still in the playoff picture, but lose the tie break to the Minnesota Vikings because of a worse divisional record at the moment.

The 13-21 loss last Sunday to the Green Bay Packers, clinching the division for the Packers. Chicago Bears fans have been vocal about Lovie Smith and the Bears’ performance over the last six weeks, losing three of their games at homes. Briggs, like Urlacher, feels that they’re not really getting the kind of support they need and should.

I’ve been here a long time, too and I’ve heard a lot of boos, for a lot of the wrong reasons. Nobody, on any team I’ve seen, gets booed more at home than here in Chicago. Everyone is passionate, but everyone in Chicago doesn’t know how to run a football team.

After a 7-3 start last season, the Bears finished only 8-8, missing out on the playoffs. They have two road games remaining – at Arizona against the 5-9 Cardinals and a divisional game to finish the regular season in Detroit, against the 4-10 Lions. Maybe playing away from home will actually help the Bears remain focused and clinch a postseason spot.
