The two best players in the NBA working out together? While sometimes you want guys who are rivals on the court to stay that way off of it as well, you can’t help but appreciate the effort LeBron James and Kevin Durant put in to get ready and be even better for this season, including a week long special training session.
Playoff rivals, preseason friends. After all, why not? The two guys like each other, and in retrospect, being friendly and playing on the USA Dream Team together in the 2012 London Olympics doesn’t take a shred off the edge, the intensity and their attitude when they play each other on the court. If you wanna be the best, you gotta play against the best, and practice at the highest level.
This wasn’t the first time in which Durant and James trained in the offseason together, but it got a bit more newsworthy attention because of being on the back of the Finals series between the two teams. With enough “bad” players on both sides, things got a little bit chippy during the finals and especially when these two teams met over Christmas.
Not between James and Durant. The two get to guard each other, as James got the upper hand once again, also by denying Durant a game tying shot during the final seconds. Great rivals on the court, pretty good friends off of it. It took me some time to wrap my head around the idea, but if it makes both players better, as James is having a rare December and Durant has added so much to his game beyond scoring – 8.4 rebounds per game, 4.1 assists, 1.4 blocks and 1.5 steals, we’re all for it. Especially if they keep giving us a chance to see what actually goes down in these training camps.
