Despite the improvement in terms of goal scoring, Liverpool are still very much in need of a striker. The next name that has come up in the transfer rumor mill regarding a new addition to the club is Kevin Gameiro from Paris-Saint Germain, who hasn’t been getting too much time on the pitch since the arrival of bigger & better names.
This doesn’t change a thing regarding Daniel Sturridge. The want-away Chelsea player is still on the verge of completing a £12 million deal that will see him leave Stamford Bridge and join the Reds, but terms have yet to be agreed and there are some at the club questioning if he is worth the price.
Gameiro, 25, does fit Rodgers’ plans and the owners demands that no old and expensive players be signed. Gameiro is thought to be coming on loan from the French league leaders, with an option to possibly purchase him at the end of the season. Where does all this leave Fabio Borini, who should be making his comeback from an injury in the very near future? It remains to be seen what the January present bag actually brings.
The French striker enjoyed a fantastic spell with Lorient, scoring 50 league goals in three seasons between 2008-2011. He was purchased for €11 million by PSG at the beginning of the new “spend, spend, spend” era, and played 34 times for the team last season, scoring 11 goals. This year, with the arrival of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Ezequiel Lavezzi, Gameiro has been pushed further down the rotation, usually coming on as a substitute, which hasn’t stopped him from scoring 5 goals in 12 matches.
He has also appeared 8 times for the French national side, the last of those appearances coming in a friendly match against Germany over 10 months ago.
