Is getting one striker and overpaying for him not enough? According to certain reports, Liverpool are attempting to sign Moussa Sow from Fenerbahce.
All the talk since the beginning of the season was about how Liverpool need another striker to play alongside Luis Suarez or simply provide an option for him off the bench. Fabio Borini wasn’t really regarded as a man worth mentioning, and he’s still injured anyway. Daniel Sturrdige was signed from Chelsea for £12 million, seemingly Liverpool overpaying for an English player once again.
According to newspapers in Turkey, they aren’t done yet. The Senegalase striker, Moussa Sow, seems to be the next man their after. The 26 year old Sow has been with Fener since January of last season, doing quite well for the Turkish giants with 14 goals in 28 league matches so far, adding three more in Europe this season, good enough for 4th at the moment in Turkey, which is a disappointment for the most popular team in Turkey.
Moussa Sow isn’t too happy with life in Istanbul, and is hoping for someone from a bigger European league to make a move from him. Sow impressed many during his time with Lille, including winning a league title with the club, scoring 31 goals in 54 appearances for the French club.
Liverpool were linked with Sow prior to his move to Fenerbahce in January 2012. Ultimately the Senegalese international decided to join the Istanbul club from Lille for €10 million, agreeing a 4.5 year deal with Fener. Sow was nominated for the FIFA 2012 Puskas awards for his brilliant scissors-kick golazo against Galatasaray, although he ended up losing to teammate Miroslav Stoch.
In any case, it looks like Fenerbahce won’t be letting Sow go unless an offer of €15 million comes along, which seems even more outrageous than the fee Liverpool paid for Sturridge, especially after both the management and Brendan Rodgers himself have spoken about not spending large sums of money on any player, focusing only on bringing in talented youngsters with a very bright future.
