The upcoming Champions League clash between Real Madrid and Manchester United is bringing transfer rumors and speculations along with it. The latest one is the interest the Red Devils are showing in the Argentinian winger, Angel di Maria.
It’s no big secret that United haven’t been happy with Nani’s performances over the last months, which has shown in his inconsistency on the pitch and behavior problems off of it, while asking from irrational wages in the contract negotiations and sabotaging moves to other clubs by asking for an even more ridiculous salary.
Alex Ferguson loves having dominant wingers on his team, but this season, it’s not just Nani that isn’t performing well. Antonio Valencia has been very up & down in his form while Ashley Young, even at his best, isn’t the kind of game changer Ferguson likes to have on the flanks.
Angel di Maria, like many other Real Madrid players, is starting to get linked up with other clubs. His poor form this season, also related to injuries he is having trouble coming back from, has left him out of the lineup even when healthy more than once, although it doesn’t seem Real Madrid have any intention of selling the 24 year old.
Manchester United went after Di Maria during his Benfica days, but Real Madrid beat them to it, signing him for €25 million in 2010. Since then he has played in 76 La Liga matches, scoring 13 goals and adding 29 assists, although he’s only at 2 goals and 3 assists this season in the league. His failure to deliver a productive match every week is one of the reasons Real Madrid have been struggling in the same way to keep up with Barcelona, falling way behind in the title race.
If Manchester United do make a move for Di Maria, who has been capped 35 times for the national side, scoring 8 goals, they will probably try to get him for less than €50 million, his release clause fee.
