NFL Trade Rumors – Arizona Cardinals Going For Jay Cutler

NFL Trade Rumors – Arizona Cardinals Going For Jay Cutler

A new head coach for the Chicago Bears might also mean a change at quarterback if some rumors are to be believed. If Jay Cutler is no longer an untouchable asset, it looks like the Arizona Cardinals will be more than happy to make a move for the player.

It wasn’t the best of seasons for Cutler, throwing 19 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions, going for 3033 yards and completing 58.8% of his passes. The bottom line was another disappointing ending to a season and missing the playoffs despite a 9-7 record, which wasn’t enough to push them through in the tie breaker.

The Arizona Cardinals were one of the worst passing teams in the NFL, ranked 29th in the league with 55.4% completions and last when it came to yards per attempt, averaging only 5.6. A lot of it had to do with a terrible offensive line, giving up 58 sacks, 7 more than the next team, also the worst in the NFL.

The Kevin Kolb era didn’t last very long, but it doesn’t look like John Skelton, Brian Hoyer and Ryan Lindley are in much better shape or have some sort of hope and faith put behind them to be the quarterbacks of the future for the franchise, going 5-11 this season, leading to the firing of Ken Whisenhunt despite being the winningest coach in franchise history.

Bruce Arians, a former offensive coordinator for the Pittsburgh Steelers and an interim coach last season with the Colts, along with his OC role, is a big fan of Cutler’s, and the belief is that the Cardinals will be looking for someone who has a big arm to spark some life into their vertical passing attack, especially wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald.

On the north side of this trade possibility are the Bears, with a new head coach as well, Marc Trestman, coaching a CFL team these past five seasons, the Montreal Alouettes, winning two Grey Cups along the way. Trestman, a former offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach in the NFL, has yet to declare Jay Cutler as his franchise quarterback, as you might expect. This leads to believe that Trestman might try and find his own guy for the job under center, leaving the Cardinals, and other teams, in a position to make a move for Cutler.

If anything will happen, the Cardinals have some pieces on defense that might interest the Bears or maybe Michael Floyd at Wide Receiver, to go along with some draft picks. They might also use the no. 7 pick they have in the upcoming NFL draft as a trade chip for Cutler.
