If it wasn’t bad enough that Chelsea were knocked out of the Carling Cup after a 0-0 draw against Swansea (lost 2-0 in the first leg), they lost Eden Hazard to a red card and probably for a very long time after the Belgian player kicked a ball boy while trying to retrieve a ball.
It took Chris Foy a minute or two before making the right decision, but after getting some help from assistants over the radio system, he made the right choice by showing Hazard the red card. Hazard could have been patient and let the ball boy, who was acting on behalf of the home team, falling on the ball, trying to waste some time, eat a few second off the clock, but frustrations get the best of players.
Hazard tried taking the ball with his hand, but after the kid fell on the ball with his body, Hazard tried to kick it from under him, getting a shot at the boy’s ribs as well. There’s a very good chance that Hazard will recieve quite a long suspension once the FA reviews the incident once more and makes a decision.
Swansea beat Chelsea 2-0 on aggregate, taking them to the Carling Cup against Bradford, making it the team’s first ever trip to Wembley for one of the two English cup competitions.
