Claudio Marchisio & Sebastian Giovinco Owe Juventus a Title

The Coppa Italia isn’t as important as the league, but Juventus needed a win badly, especially against a rival like Lazio. Not just to clinch a spot in the final, but to get back to winning ways. With a chance to score a goal that would have put a happy ending on the semifinal, Sebastian Giovinco and Claudio Marchisio managed to miss two easy chances, resulting in another loss.

Juventus were behind 1-0 for most of the second half, until Arturo Vidal scored in the 92nd minute as the Lazio defense broke down. It looked like the match was going into extra time, but the referee did add six minutes of injury time due to the nasty and bloody hit Hernanes took earlier in the match.

Sergio Floccari, who came off the bench, caused the Stadio Olimpico to erupt with a header in the 94th minute, giving Lazio a 2-1 lead and what should be enough to put Juventus away. Still, the champions wouldn’t give up. Finally with their best players on the pitch, they had time for another chance.

Sebastian Giovinco dribbled his way into the box, but couldn’t finish in a one on one with Marchetti. The ball was parried right into the feet of Claudio Marchisio, who had an open net in front of him, but didn’t hit the ball with the right part of his boot, and squandered a 100% chance.

Juventus needed the win to gain confidence again; playing with Chiellini and without a striker that is guaranteed to give them goals, while Fabio Quagliarella, Mirko Vucinic and Sebastian Giovinco are in horrible form has changed the title race in Italy, now only 3 points ahead of Napoli. If Andrea Pirlo and Claudio Marchisio don’t take control and push this team back to the form it had earlier this season; if Mirko Vucinic continues to play like a man lost on the pitch, while Giovinco is often more busy arguing with referees than focusing on scoring goals, things might get even more complicated very soon.
