Despite signing Robert Nkemdiche, Ole Miss weren’t the biggest winners on the flag day of College Football recruiting. As expected, some bigger names like Alabama, Florida, Ohio State and Notre Came came away with the largest number of commitments from the potentially impressive recruits of the 2013 class.
10 – Georgia Bulldogs, 32 commits – Georgia didn’t get any five-star guys in 2013, but did end up with 20 4-star recruits with another top-10 recruiting class, which includes five ESPN 150 players on both offense and defense: Defensive backs Shaq Wiggins and Tray Matthews, quarterback Brice Ramsey, athlete Tramel Terry and centerBrandon Kublanow.
9 – Florida State Seminoles, 22 commits – The seminoles didn’t recruit many players (4th in the ACC alone), but did have a lot of quality, with 7 from the ESPN 150 class, including five-star linebacker Matthew Thomas and one of the premier corners coming out of high school, Jalen Ramsey. They also managed to flip a former Alabama commit, DeMarcus Walker, one of the premier DTs heading into college.
8 – Texas A&M Aggies, 34 commits – No five star recruits, “only” 19 four stars. A&M especially bulked up when it comes to receivers, including the number one tight end in the class, Derrick Griffin, joining wide receivers Ricky Seals-Jones, LaQuvionte Gonzalez and Sebastian LaRue
7 – LSU Tigers, 27 commits – No five star commitments for the Tigers, but their recruiting class is filled with a few out-of-state ESPN 150 prospects and typical strong in-state talent. Kendell Beckwith is their number one guy in this class, ranked as the number #4 athlete by ESPN heading into college this season. They also strengthened their offensive line with Ethan Pocic and DeSean Smith.
6 – Michigan Wolverines, 27 commits – Brady Hoke got 10 players in the ESPN 150, focusing especially on the offensive line with players like David Dawson (No. 91), Patrick Kugler (101), Logan Tuley-Tillman (104),Chris Fox (134) and Kyle Bosch (157), while adding a premier running back in Derrick Green.
5 – Ole Miss Rebels, 28 commits – Ole Miss were about the two five-star recruits they managed to land surprising everyone, potentially making up their best ever recruiting class. DE Robert Nkemdiche and OT Laremy Tunsil are the cream of the crop in this one, but the Rebels also landed the number one WR in the nation, Laquon Treadwell, and the number two safety, Antonio Conner.
4 – Notre Dame Fighting Irish, 24 commits – The Irish landed two five star players; the second ranked OLB in the class, Jaylon Smith, and the top defensive tackle coming out of high school, Eddie Vanderdoes. Greg Bryant at running back and and athlete Max Redfield complete the upper tier of a very impressive recruiting class.
3 – Ohio State Buckeyes, 25 commits – One five star commit for the Buckeyes, the number one team outside the SEC when it comes to recruiting, probably thanks to Urban Meyer. Eli Apple, the number three cornerback in the class, is their five-star guy, but they’ve really bulked up in the secondary with more CBs – Gareon Conley and Cam Burrows.
2 – Florida Gators, 28 commits – Florida got two five star commits in this recruiting class, both of them number one in their position. Cornerback Vernon Hargreaves III and running back Kelvin Taylor, bulked by nine more ESPN 150 recruits, including linebacker Daniel McMillian and DTs Caleb Brantley and Jay-nard Bostwick.
1 – Alabama Crimson Tide, 26 commits – The Tide got one five star commit, athlete Derrick Henry, who will probably be playing at running back next to another very talented young man, Alvin Kamara. The number one ILB is also heading to Tuscaloosa, Rueben Foster.
