The NBA doesn’t really like it when things go out of hand, but once in a while, it’s nice to see two NBA teams get into a bit too much, giving us a nice little brawl to enjoy, while the result of the game, with the Indiana Pacers beating the Golden State Warriors, get forgotten for some reason.
So a quick wrap of basketball related issues: The Pacers beat the Warriors 108-97 despite 38 points from Stephen Curry (including 23 in the first half), as the Warriors dropped their first game after three consecutive wins. David West was the leading scorer for the Indiana Pacers, improving to 36-21, six games behind the Heat in the East.
West scored 28 points, followed by Paul George with 21 points, 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals, and George Hill, with 23 points and 7 assists in a rare occurence of the Pacers actually playing some enjoyable offensive basketball. But on to the fun news – the brawl.
The fight began during a Pacers possession, as Roy Hibbert and David Lee were fighting for position beneath the basket. Lee shoved Hibbert who was using his elbows to try and find a comfort zone in the paint, getting himself positioned for the offensive rebound. Hibbert exchanged shoves with David Lee while other players joined the tiny skirmish with the most noticeable of them being Stephen Curry, sent flying to the floor twice by Hibbert as he was trying to shove the big man away from there.
Somehow, despite everyone shoving everyone, Hibbert was the one who got ejected from the game, while Lee and others who were just as involved managed to remain in it. Not everyone thinks that seeing this kind of scene is a bad thing. Tell that to David Stern.
There were two or three guys coming after Roy. We preach and talk about togetherness, so that’s part of what we’re going to do. We’re going to defend one another. They came after him too many times.
Hibbert himself wasn’t too excited about the whole thing and/or Stephen Curry gone flying to the floor – Seriously, I didn’t even feel him. I saw some light-skinned guy. I don’t know if it was Klay Thompson or Steph Curry, I just knew there was a light-skinned guy by me.
