It’s been more than four years since the last time Kobe Bryant had a 50-point game, but there’s no one close to him when it comes to the art of scoring in volumes, being the only player with a double digit number of games over the last decade of these kind of scoring performances, followed by LeBron James and Allen Iverson.
We’ve had two such games this season – a 54 points performance from Stephen Curry and a 52 points explosion from Kevin Durant.
Rashard Lewis (Sonics), 53 Points, 10/31/03
On the second night of the season Rashard Lewis led the Sonics to a 124-105 win over the Los Angeles Clippers with 50 points.
Kevin Love (Timberwolves), 51 Points, 3/23/12
Kevin Love scored 51 points against the Oklahoma City Thunder last season, although it didn’t help the Minnesota Timberwolves beat the Oklahoma City Thunder, losing 149-140 in overtime as Kevin Durant and Russell Westbrook combined for 85 points.
Brandon Jennings (Bucks), 55 Points, 11/14/09
On his 7th NBA game, Brandon Jennings scored 55 points for the Milwaukee Bucks in a 129-125 win over the Golden State Warriors, showing everyone that spending a year in Europe isn’t a bad idea.
Kevin Martin (Kings), 50 Points, 4/01/09
On the final game of the season for him, Martin couldn’t stop the Sacramento Kings from losing again despite his 50 points against the Warriors, dropping the game 143-141.
Jamal Mashburn (Hornets), 50 Points, 2/21/03
Mashburn led the Hornets to a 125-123 win over the Memphis Grizzlies with 50 points, aided by 35 points from David Wesley and Jamaal Magloire enjoying a 20-15 night.
Andre Miller (Blazers), 52 Points, 1/30/10
Andre Miller finished with 22-31 from the field as he scored 52 points for the Portland Trail Blazers in a 114-112 win over the Dallas Mavericks.
Rip Hamilton (Pistons), 51 Points, 12/27/06
Hamilton scored 51 points for the Pistons in a wild 151-145 loss against the New York Knicks, as the Knicks had four players (Frye, Marbury, Eddie Curry, Jamal Crawford) scoring 26 points or more.
Vince Carter (Nets), 51 Points, 12/23/05
Into his first full season with the New Jersey Nets, Vince Carter scored 51 points while making 23 of his 24 free throw attempts, as the Nets beat the Miami Heat 95-88.
Jermaine O’Neal (Pacers), 55 Points, 1/04/05
It’s been a long time since the Pacers were a really good team, as they were during the mid 00’s. O’Neal scored 55 points in a 116-99 win over the Bucks needing only 36 minutes to complete the feat.
Paul Pierce (Celtics), 50 Points, 2/15/06
Paul Pierce scoring 50 points wasn’t enough against the Cleveland Cavaliers, as the Celtics lost 113-109. LeBron James had a 43-12-11 triple double.
Brandon Roy (Blazers), 52 Points, 12/18/08
Brandon Roy led the Portland Trail Blazers to a 124-119 win over the Phoenix Suns with his career best 52 points.
Damon Stoudamire (Blazers), 54 Points, 1/14/05
54 Points and only one assist weren’t enough to lead a bad Blazers team to a win against the New Orleans Hornets, taking the game 112-106.
Deron Williams (Nets), 57 Points, 3/04/12
It wasn’t hard putting points against the Bobcats last season, but scoring 57 is still quite a feat, as Deron Williams led the New Jersey Nets to a 104-101 win.
Amare Stoudemire (Suns), 50 Points, 1/02/05
No one was enjoying the arrival of Steve Nash quite like Amare Stoudemire, who scored 50 points against the Blazers in a 117-98 win for the Phoenix Suns.
Tony Parker (Spurs), 55 Points, 11/05/08
Parker didn’t need too many games to warm up in the 2008-2009 season, scoring 55 points against the Minnesota Timberwolves on the fourth game of the campaign, leading the Spurs to a 129-125 win, adding 10 assists. Tim Duncan had a 30 points, rebounds game.
Stephen Curry (Warriors), 54 Points, 02/27/13
Curry is averaging a career best 22.2 points per game this season, and became yet another player to have a huge night at the Madison Square Garden against the Knicks, hitting 11 shots from beyond the arc. Unfortunately for him, the Warriors lost 109-105.
Michael Redd (Bucks), Twice
For a few seasons, before the injury that took it away for him, Michael Redd was one of the best scorers in the NBA. This season, on January 18, Durant scored a career high 52 points against the Dallas Mavericks in a 117-114 win.
