Boston Celtics – Finally Beating the Worst Team in the NBA

It took the Boston Celtics three attempts, but they finally got the best of the Worst team in the NBA, with no one in particular standing out, while not even needing Kevin Garnett to dress up for the game or travel with them.

It wasn’t a sense that we owed them one. It was a sense that we need to play better against them and we need to keep playing well at home.Β It’s about us playing well and playing the right way.

After two straight losses to the Bobcats, a win over them, a big win, was long overdue. The Celtics beat them 105-88, as all five starters finished in double figures, aided by Jason Terry scoring a team high 15 points off the bench, and are once again tied with the Hawks and Bulls at 36-29 for the 5th, 6th and 7th spots in the postseason.

It wasn’t brilliant basketball, nothing the Celtics produce is brilliant or flashy, but it was the right kind of basketball; the kind that doesn’t always get heralded by highlight shows and bloggers. They were 10-15 from beyond the arc, won the rebounding battle 42-35, including limiting Charlotte to only 6 offensive rebounds, while they also got to outscore the Bobcats in the paint 38-30. In short – good on offense, great on defense.

We just feel like this is a building we should never lose in.Β Teams coming to the Garden, they’ve got to know that this is going to be their toughest game of the year. That’s the feeling and the swagger that we’re bringing.

That’s quite mighty talk from Pierce (14 points, 6 rebounds, 8 assists in 23 minutes), who’ll probably won’t have home advantage in any of the playoff series the Celtics take part of beginning in a month or so. The C’s are 24-9 at home this season, pretty good for a team that’s been dealing with injuries and lack of offensive quality when compared with their other running mates into the postseason. Some things can be made up by more than just numbers.

Defensively, this time it was about shutting down Gerald Henderson, who enjoyed the best game of his career in the 100-74 win by the Bobcats not too long ago. The Bobcats got nothing out of their frontcourt, and were led by Jannero Pargo off the bench, while Ben Gordon struggled to find a shot he liked.

I thought defensively it was pretty disappointing.Β I think we’re a better defensive team. We proved that the last time we played them.Β We gave up the rim and they were able to get out in transition and also hit their 3s.Β We settled for a lot of jump shots and we didn’t get to the rim like we want to.

Don’t look now, but the Boston Celtics have a chance, on Monday, to ruin a huge winning streak of 22 games once again. The Miami Heat play in Toronto a day prior to that, which is already a bad sign for Miami. If they beat Toronto, they tie the Houston Rockets for the secondΒ longestΒ winning streak in NBA history with 22 points. The Boston Celtics were the team that stopped the Rockets after 22 wins last time.
