Not a lot of activity, as teams are kinda hesitant to make moves for the remaining player, but one big piece was taken off the market, as Jake Long decided to leave the Miami Dolphins and become the new left tackle of the St. Louis Rams after finding it hard to choose between the two.

The Miami Dolphins lost another player on the same day, as linebacker Kevin Burnett became another one of the position to join the Oakland Raiders after two years in Florida.

Long was the number one pick in the 2008 NFL draft, and expected to see a lot more demand for his talents when hitting free agency, but the last couple of years, with injuries and a steep decline from his All-Pro form of 2010, made the market a little less hospitable.

After three days in St. Louis, Long turned back to Miami to see what they’re willing to offer him and stay. He chose the Rams, giving Long a four year deal worth $36 million. He missed four games last season due to a triceps injury, after missing only two games during his first four seasons in the league. He was slowed by an ankle injury as a rookie and hurt his shoulder in 2010. In 2011, he battled back trouble, then missed the final game with a torn right biceps.

Kevin Burnett

Burnett, who has a brother on the Raiders’ roster, Kaelin, becomes the third linebacker the Raiders sign during the first week of free agency, following Kaluka Maiava from Cleveland and Nick Roach from Chicago. Burnett is an 8 year-pro who began his career with the Dallas Cowboys (2005-2008) before moving on to San Diego and then the Dolphins in 2011 and 2012. He has started for both the Chargers and the Dolphins over the last three years in all 16 games, recording a total of 11 sacks and 307 tackles. Pro Football Focus voted him into their 2nd All-NFL team in 2012.
