Transfer Rumors 2013 – Liverpool & Manchester United Chasing Dede

While Vasco in Brazil weren’t really ready to part ways with their fantastic centre back, Dede, just yet, their financial problems might force them to do so. As a result, we’ll probably see Manchester United & Liverpool enter a bidding war for the player, with Benfica and Juventus also rumored to be among those interested in the player.

Because of unpaid tax debt (Something that crushed Rangers in Scotland), Dede (or Anderson Vital da Silva), capped six times for the national team since 2011, will likely be made available for transfer, for a price that will likely begin at £15 million, and go up as the European giants battle for his services.

The 24 year old has been with Vasco since 2009, coming from the tiny Volta Redonda, and besides his height, which was easy to spot from anywhere in Rio, he has developed fantastic marking skills, being one of the finest and timeliest tacklers in South American football, not to mention his aerial game, scoring 12 goals for the club in 2012, including 6 in the national championship.

With Liverpool, the need for a centre back is quite obvious – Daniel Agger might their best performer, but he has suffered this season from being partnered next to Martin Skrtel, pretty much making way for his exit from the club with a number of huge mistakes that have cost Liverpool points and him his lineup place. Jamie Carragher is retiring at the end of the season, while Sebastian Coates isn’t improving at the rate they’d hope he would.

For United, who seem to be purchasing a couple of centre backs each season, it’s quite a similar need – Rio Ferdinand isn’t what he used to be, and Nemanja Vidic has been through too many injuries, looking more fragile and vulnerable than in the past. While this leaves them with a young and promising core of Chris Smalling (always injured), Phil Jones and Jonny Evans, Ferguson likes to have four options of high quality to choose from.
