With the weather getting warmer, so do the transfer rumors around Europe, and we’re once again with Juventus looking for a striker, renewing their interest in Javier Hernandez, who seems to be having highs & lows with Manchester United in terms of his scoring and his place in the lineup. This isn’t the first time that Juve have shown interest in Chicharito, but the second time around is usually more serious than the first.
With all of the good impressions Juventus have left this season in the Serie A and their performances in the Champions League, it’s pretty obvious that their weak spot is up front, probably the one position separating them from being considered as one of the top 4-5 clubs in Europe. After a few cheap attempts at improving depth instead of quality, it looks like it’s going to be a little bit different this summer – Luis Suarez is a candidate, but might be too expensive. Fernando Llorente is arriving for free, but he’s probably not the world class striker Juve want. Neither might be Hernandez, but it doesn’t mean they won’t try and sign him.
It’s hard to argue about Chicharito’s scoring record, with 16 goals in 28 matches (all competitions) without the need to be a starter in order to score goals, among the leaders in the Premier League when it comes to goals per minutes. Still, as the star player of the Mexican team, Hernandez expects to get a little more playing time on the pitch, something that hasn’t happened to him with Manchester United despite being with the team for a third straight season, always (mostly, to be more accurate) falling behind Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie when it really matters, or Danny Welbeck when it’s about a more tactical approach to the match from Ferguson.
Hernandez arrived from Chivas for around £8 million; after three seasons and 31 league goals (in 70 matches), there’s a good chance United will be able to sell the 24 year old, feeling it’s time to start playing more regularly in the lineup of a top team, for about double the fee they paid for him.
