It’s usually other clubs we see in connection with a potential transfer involving Colombian striker Radamel Falcao of Atletico Madrid, but according to media outlets in Spain, Manchester United have been working behind the scenes to secure the signing of the player despite not usually being mentioned in the race for his services.
According to Marca, United are in an advanced stage of negotiations, hoping to secure Falcao for the incredible, record breaking fee of €55 million, which would make him the most expensive footballer in the history of the Premier League. In order to secure the deal, Marca claim that United are willing to give Atletico a down payment, making sure there’s no room for mistakes and they don’t have to wait till summer, entering a competition they might not win.
Since the beginning of the season, the two clubs we usually hear about in the chase after Falcao are Real Madrid and Chelsea, while the name of Manchester City has also been thrown around, although they get mentioned with pretty much everybody. United don’t usually get tangled up with the really expensive moves, but maybe things are changing at Old Trafford.
While thinking about a front line rotation which includes Wayne Rooney, Robin van Persie, Javier Hernandez and Falcao is quite an intriguing thought for Manchester United fans, in all likelihood, if this incredible move does actually happen, one of the three mentioned names before Falcao will be sold.
Falcao, 27, is into his second season with Atletico Madrid, scoring 28 goals in 32 matches (all competitions), and has 136 goals in 167 matches since arriving in Europe, playing for Porto before moving to Spain.
