Transfer Rumors 2013 – Liverpool, Newcastle & Tottenham Interested in Christian Eriksen

Christian Eriksen

It’s been quite a while we’ve been hearing about Christian Eriksen of Ajax being on his way to the Premier League, but each season passes and the Danish wonderkid, who has turned 21 by now, remains with the Dutch champions. The summer of 2013 is likely to be another one with plenty of rumors regarding his value and next destination flying around, as Premier League clubs Liverpool, Newcastle and Tottenham are very interested to see him land with them.

While Newcastle have mostly been about growing and surviving through the French league, they’ve already signed one player from Ajax this season, signing the disappointing Vurnon Anita. Tottenham and Liverpool seem to be a different story, both teams somehow always interested in the same players, with Spurs usually coming out on top thanks to more money they have to spend on players like Clint Dempsey and Gylfi Sigurðsson. They too have a recent signing from Ajax, probably their best this season, Jan Vertonghen.

Liverpool? Their best player is from Ajax, although he didn’t grow there. Suarez spent a few seasons, failing to win a league title but showing some impressive scoring prowess before making an expensive switch to the Premier League, which took him a while to get used to. Now, Eriksen, who has already played with Denmark in the 2010 World Cup and Euro 2012, and has appeared with Ajax in the Champions League, feels that he’s probably reached all that he can with the Dutch club, that under the current financial reality cannot be more than a feeder club to the richer teams in the continent, holding on to young, talented players for a limited time only.

Eriksen, while still suffering from severe ups & downs in his game, known to pull a disappearing act here and there, like even the best attacking midfielders tend to do, is continuing to improve as a finisher and in general, his decision making around the box, so far scoring 8 goals and adding 13 assists as Ajax attempt to capture a third consecutive league title. To sign Eriksen, whoever finds him worthy once the season ends, it’ll cost at least £15 million.
