Bayern Munich Have a Better Goal Differential Than Goals Scoring Record By Any Other Team in the League

It’s really hard to put into words just how dominant Bayern Munich are in the Bundesliga this season, so numbers do the perfect job. It’s not enough that they’ve secured the title, leading by 20 points, with six weeks to go, but their goal differential exceeds the total scored goals of any other club in the league.

That’s how good the red machine is doing this season. With 89 goals scored and 14 conceded following yet another thrashing, this time 6-1 over Hannover, Bayern have a +75 scoring margin this season. The next best output for goals scored by another team this season? Dortmund, who’ll probably finish second this season while they have some unfinished Champions League business to take care of, with 74 goals so far following their own 2-0 win over Mainz this weekend.

They’ve already tied Dortmund’s record for points in a season of 81, with four matches left to play. They’ve also set a record for most wins in a single season with 26, while their margin of 20 points from second place is tied for the all-time record. Only one other team in the history of the Bundesliga finished a season with only one loss – Bayern from the 1986-1987 season.

With 89 goals, they must be also thinking about breaking the 101 goals in a single season record, also achieved by a Bayern side from 1972. They’re on their way to set a new record of goals conceded (only 14 so far), with 21 being the best defensive effort ever – Bayern in 2008. They have 19 clean sheets this year, meaning they’ll probably end up with the record that belonged to Werder Bremen until now.

When you look at the German table, the most astonishing thing has to be Bayern’s away record – 14 wins in 15 matches, with one draw to ruin the perfection. With 37 goals scored and only 3 conceded, maybe that line of numbers is the most telling about the quality, strength, consistency and focus this team is putting on the pitch this season.
