Transfer Rumors 2013 – Arsenal Still Chasing Stevan Jovetic

Stevan Jovetic

It seems that Arseanl aren’t giving up on the best young player in the Italian Serie A, hoping that by securing a spot in the top 4 which leads to the Champions League next season they’ll finally be able to land Stevan Jovetic of Fiorentina, who they’ve been chasing after for over a season.

The Montenegrin star has continued his development as a goal scorer and play maker, scoring 12 goals with 4 assists so far for La Viola this season, helping them to remain in the battle for one of the Champions League openings behind already declared champions Juventus. As much as Arsenal’s transfer spree in the summer depends on their ability to finish among the top 4, the availability of Jovetic depends on whether or not Fiorentina play in the Europa League or the Champions League.

The 23 year old has been playing in Italy since 2008 after arriving from Partizan Belgrade. He has moved in to a more forward and central position over the last couple of seasons, coming back better and stronger after missing out on the entire 2010-2011 season due to a torn ACL.

Jovetic would love to play in the Premier League according to rumors, but the prospect of playing for the biggest club in Italy, Juventus, is something Arsenal will have to try and fight against. Usually, Arsenal lose these battles over stars and big names, although another failure this season might lead to a more willing approach in the transfer market.

What seems to be clear is the price is going to be around £20 million, but Jovetic will snub the courtship of the Italian champions only if Arsenal will be able to offer him the thrills of Champions League football. There’s also a rumored second shortlist for Arsene Wenger (if he stays at the club) if Arsenal finish fifth, which will be more about finally getting tougher players than ever before, but it’s obvious the quality of signings will be poorer, even than what we’ve seen in previous years.
