9 – Robin van Persie (Manchester United) vs Aston Villa, April 22
Robin van Persie scored a hat trick in the match that confirmed United will win the Premier League title, a first for the Dutchman, who ended up winning the Golden Boot for a second consecutive season, scoring 26 goals in 38 matches.
8 – Gareth Bale (Tottenham) vs West Ham, February 25
Maybe the best performance by the Welshman all season, as he scored a stunning goal from long range, his second goal of the match, to give Spurs a 90th minute win over West Ham after being down 2-1 early in the second half.
7 – Leighton Baines (Everton) vs Newcaslte, January 2
The best left back in the league scored a fantastic free kick to equalize a match Everton eventually won 2-1 at St. James’ Park. Baines helped Everton to a sixth place finish, scoring five goals this season. Rumors are he might be joining David Moyes at Old Trafford.
6 – Kevin Mirallas (Everton) vs Stoke, March 30
How was Kevin Mirallas’ debut season in England? Not bad, not great. While he had some impressive moments, injuries and inconsistent plays have hurt his performances. He finished scoring six league goals in 27 matches, with this slalom against Stoke being the best of ’em.
5 – David Luiz (Chelsea) vs Fulham, April 17
After an inconsistent start to his England career, David Luiz has been excellent as he became the top figure in the Chelsea defense and quite often given the chance to show a little bit more of his attacking skills, playing in the defensive midfield. He finished with only 2 goals, including this memorable one against Fulham.
4 – Jose Enrique (Liverpool) vs Swansea, February 17
It was quite a weird second half of the season for Liverpool, as they put on some impressive displays of football, like their 6-0 win in Newcastle or 5-0 over Swansea City, but on the other hand lost 3-1 to Southampton. Not all goals are about fancy slaloms or amazing long range shots. This one from Jose Enrique shows just how beautiful a impressive passing sequence can be.
3 – Cameron Jerome (Stoke) vs Southampton, December 29
Some goals are born out of greed. Peter Crouch had control of the ball, but Cameron Jerome wanted the shot, and bolted it in to give Stoke a 3-3 draw with Southampton at the 90th minute. It ended up being a forgettable season for Stoke, ending up at 13th, fighting against relegation for most of the season.
2 – Luis Suarez (Liverpool) vs Newcastle, November 4
Liverpool were struggling early in the season, as evidenced by their home draw with Newcastle (1-1). Luis Suarez finished the season suspended, but he was brilliant throughout, with his brilliant piece of finishing: stopping the ball on his chest off a long ball from Jose Enrique is something no one in the league but him can do.
1 – Matt Lowton (Aston Villa) vs Stoke, April 6
One of the most important goals for Aston Villa as the managed to survive relegation. Matt Lowton surprised everyone by taking that strike after dropping the ball of his chest. It gave Villa the lead in an eventual 3-1 win over Stoke, that paved the way for their relatively decent finish to secure another season in the Premier League.
