Reaching the finishing line of the 2012-2013 season, Benfica had three titles up for grabs. They ended up losing all of them, leading to quite a bit of frustration from Oscar Cardozo, shoving and trying to do more to his manager, Jorge Jesus, after losing 2-1 in the cup final to Vitoria de Guimaraes.

The loss signaled another late collapse for the team, who were up 1-0 from the 30th minute through Nicolas Gaitan, but conceded two goals in the final 11 minutes to lose in that cursed result for them, 2-1.

It was the same result in which they lost against Chelsea in the Europa League final, conceding a Branislav Ivanovic goal during injury time, and it was the same minute in which they conceded against Porto in the O Classico a few days earlier, losing 2-1 after a late Kelvin goal which gave Porto the lead in the league for a first time in a very long time, just before the final day of the season. Porto secured the title the following week.

Oscar Cardozo had both long-term and short term frustrations to vent. The entire collapse this season is a black mark on all Benfica players, but probably more than anyone on Jesus, who’ll now be remembered for his “fall of despair” against Porto. Cardozo was substituted against Vitoria in the cup final and didn’t like it. Once Benfica lost, he went over to settle the score with the manager he hasn’t been getting along with too well.
