While Napoli are only beginning to adjust to a new manager, Rafa Benitez, his old club, Chelsea, are trying to sign his best player, Edinson Cavani, with reports from Italy suggesting that an offer worth €55 million has already been made for the striker.

I’m in Uruguay at the moment to recharge my batteries for next season and I am only thinking about Napoli for now. If I were to leave the club we’d have to sit down with the president to discuss my valuation. I’m feeling well at Napoli, though. I have grown here and have matured a lot.

Does that sound like a man who wants to leave? While Cavani may be happy at Napoli, a club he helped lead back to the Champions League thanks to a second place finish, his potential for success in the South of Italy may be limited. Cavani scored 38 goals in all competitions last season, and it feels like the load is going to be on him once more if he stays on for another year, but the chances to win a league title or do anything special in the Champions League aren’t that great.

It’s still unclear if €55 million is enough to convince Aurelio De Laurentiis to sell Cavani, but he might not have a choice, as the Gazzetta Dello Sport is reporting that Chelsea have now met the release clause in his contract (which runs until 2017), and will have the option to begin a contract negotiation with the player.

Chelsea seemed to be high on Falcao all season long, but while everyone was waiting, it looks like Monaco have beaten everyone to the punch, not really caring about European football or even which league they’re going to play in next season, signing players at insane rates just to be ahead of the pack. Falcao seems to be next after the Porto duo of Joao Moutinho and James Rodriguez, which turned everyone’s attention to Edinson Cavani, who has usually been linked to Manchester City over the past 12 months.
