It’s not everyday that a Barcelona player leaves and starts playing for Real Madrid, but according to reports coming from Spain Thiago Alcantara, who is a little bit unsettled at his current club may soon make the controversial switch.
It’s already news that both Manchester teams are interested in the Spain U-21 star because of a release clause featuring in his contract, making him available for €18 million after he didn’t get to play as much as he was promised this season. The 22-year old has appeared in 26 matches this season, but continues to be the fourth central midfielder on the depth chart and is thinking about trying to get a chance to play more matches elsewhere.
According to sources close to Thiago, he isn’t really keen on leaving the La Liga or Barcelona, but he’s trying to figure out what’s the best thing for his career. Playing for both Manchester sides does not promise him an automatic place in the lineup, but it seems not playing next to Xavi or Iniesta means a better chance in any case.
Real Madrid, also looking to improve their situation in the midfield (not to mention Xabi Alonso doesn’t consider leaving), wouldn’t feel too bad if they added a very talented young player (possibly overrated as well) that just happens to be playing for their biggest rival.
Considered one of the biggest young talents in Europe until not too long ago, Thiago’s development has stalled over the last couple of seasons, partially because of the arrival of Cesc Fabregas, but also because he hasn’t made the most of the chances he’s been given in the lineup or off the bench. Some players, especially in the Barca system, only need patience and some time before they become the stars they were predicted to.
