There are many signs to suggest if a player is going to arrive at a certain club, and it’s not always what the media says. It seems Manchester United are very close to complete their first signing this summer, adding Kevin Strootman from PSV.
How is this almost confirmed news? Sky Bet tweeted that the market on the future club of the young Dutch midfielder has been suspended, which means too many people are in the know about his next destination, which according to all accounts is Manchester United.
Strootman, 23, will be playing with the Dutch U-21 side in the European championship this week in Israel, but his involvement in international football isn’t stopping him from moving forward when it comes to his club career.
He has been playing for PSV these past couple of season after arriving from Utrecht, signed along with Dries Mertens for a combined total of €13 million. The central midfielder has scored 14 goals in 80 matches since arriving, and while his head coach Dick Advocaat has compared him to Gareth Barry in the way he plays, he’s much more than just a defensive midfielder (as his six league goals this season showed), with the ability to play in a more advanced role and even on the wing if necessary.
He is playing for the U-21 team, but has been appearing regularly for the Dutch national side over the last couple of seasons, making 18 appearances, and was included in the Dutch squad for Euro 2012, not playing a single match.
He is valued at well over €10 million, and according to recent reports, United, who are looking for a midfielder who can play next to Michael Carrick and add both attacking quality, vision and an ability to be a lot more mobile than Carrick himself when it comes to chasing players through the middle, will need to pay something close to £15-17 million in order to sign the player.

[…] That is what the tabloids are saying. It seems that there is a picture that showed Kevin Strootman at Manchester Airport. It also seems that his coach at PSV Eindhoven, Dick Advocaat, has said that a move to Manchester United would suit him. Apparently, Kevin Strootman also dreams of moving to Manchester United. If he is signed up by Manchester United, he will be the box-to-box midfielder that we need, and very badly too. Also, he will be playing with his fellow countrymen Buttner and Van Persie.
