Transfer Rumors 2013 – Monaco Trying to Sign John Terry

If there’s one transfer Chelsea would love to see go through, it’s the current rumor that new rich kids on the block AS Monaco are trying to sign John Terry, offering him a huge, tax-free salary that’s almost too good to refuse.

And what about Chelsea themselves? The Chelsea fans in the stands seem to adore their captain, but it’s hard to ignore his ability over the last two and maybe three seasons, with the team often looking much better without him on the pitch, winning two European finals while he was in the stands, ready to move into the uniform when it was time to lift the trophy.

John Terry

According to the Telegraph, Monaco are going to offer Chelsea £7 million, hoping it’ll be enough to bring over the long-time captain who has only played for Chelsea during his 15 year career and partner him up with Ricardo Carvalho, who enjoyed a very successful partnership with Terry at Stamford Bridge for six seasons.

The real kicker in terms of convincing Terry to leave the Premier League, where he’s not a very popular player outside of West London due to a number on incidents on and off the pitch, is the salary Monaco are willing to offer him: £7.8 million, tax-free, a season.

While Chelsea wouldn’t agree immediately to sell their captain, appearing 574 times for the club so far (but only 27 times last season), this would make it a bit easier in the whole contract offer situation, which they didn’t handle too well with Frank Lampard this season.

Terry’s current deal runs out in 12 months, and Chelsea, at the moment, do not look like a side that wants to renew the deal. Terry is no longer good enough to keep a place in the first team. Leadership and experience are fine, but they only take you so far, while his connection to Jose Mourinho might not be enough to save his job. Luckily for him, it looks like he’ll have a nice landing spot if Chelsea do agree to sell him.
