Transfer Rumors 2013 – Liverpool Will Sign Iago Aspas

The first major signing for Liverpool heading into the 2013-2014 season is about to be completed, with Celta Vigo forward Iago Aspas already agreeing his terms with the club, and now waiting for the final confirmation.

The 25 year old forward who usually plays as a striker and scored 12 goals as the team managed to pull of a dramatic, last matchday survival in the La Liga. It’s been rumored for around a month that Liverpool, regardless of their forward situation for next season, will try and sign the player.

Brendan Rodgers wants his strikers to be more than target men, as can be seen by the way both Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge play. It’s about the ability to be fluid in the match itself, switch positions and being able to both score and provide goals through crosses and assists, while not feeling uncomfortable on the wings.

According to the Cadena Cope in Spain, Liverpool will pay €8.5-9.5 million for his services, and give him a salary of €1.5 million a season. Liverpool weren’t the only team after Aspas, but it seemed that they managed to beat competition for his services both from Premier League teams, the La Liga and the Serie A.

He’ll be turning 26 in August, an Aspas is going to play for the first time in his career outside of Spain. He has been part of the Celta setup since the age of 8, and except for a short loan spell with Rápido Bouzas has played his entire career for either Celta B or the senior side, scoring 48 goals in his four seasons with the senior team, which includes only one (this last one) in the top flight.
